When you create a regular cleaning schedule, you can make sure your garbage disposal runs in tip-top shape and smells fresh and like new.

Use baking soda and one cup of vinegar per month to keep the bathtub drain clear and running well. Cover it with a plug or rag, since a chemical reaction should happen in the pipes. After waiting a few minutes, flush the drain with boiling water. By following this tip, you should be able to clear all the soap scum, hair, and other grime out of your pipes.

If you see unwanted water that keeps draining into your dishwasher, the problem is most likely a hose running to your kitchen sink that was not correctly installed. The hose connecting the sink the the dishwasher should be at an uphill angle and then downhill to prevent the water from mixing.

Clean out your dryer’s lint filter. This could prevent you from a tons of trouble, and it can also prevent fires. Be sure to check the trap for tears and rips, because this can cause bigger problems as it may mean that lint is escaping into your pipes.

Frozen pipes can cause you to incur expensive plumbing repair bills. However, you can generally avoid this happening in the first place. The first concern is making sure that all water lines that run outside of your house are fully and sufficiently insulated. When wintertime comes, disconnect and drain your hoses and shut off outside faucets. You can avoid future plumbing repairs by doing this, and therefore, saving you a lot of money.

If you are trying to get a clean-out plug removed, but not getting very far, there are a couple of things you can do. The first method you can try is using a chisel with a hammer to get the fitting loose. The only other alternative is to chisel through the plug.

Do this little test to investigate whether your toilet leaks. Put food coloring into your toilet water in the tank to test for leaks. Look at its bowl, then if you spot any colored water within just a few seconds, there’s an issue that must be dealt with soon.

Be aware of the location of the main water shutoff valve on your property. You can locate a water meter close to it. Also, locate additional shut off valves for toilets, sinks, washers and any other device that runs off of your water supply. Give all family members information about where these valves are located, and show them how to shut them off should an emergency occur.
